“A good sketch is better than a long speech” — Napoleon Bonaparte

An oldie but a goodie. In 2009, John Sviokla blogged:

The challenge is that if management teams do not consciously build in great visualizations, their organizations will waste an inordinate amount of time sifting through the river of bits, and not get the effective insights they need.

What I find most interesting is the litany of comments that followed. Followers gazed into their crystal balls and predicted “one of the key skills human being would require would be to be able to pick the right set of data from the ocean of data” and that “people will demand the ability to “play” with data themselves”.

Gartner now predicts that by 2015 close to 1 million new jobs will be created in the Asia Pacific region to harness the big data phenomenon.

Imagine where we will be tomorrow when you think of where we are today!
